Cannes Film Festival: Our take on hair and makeup
Our take on the Cannes Film Festival and Red Carpet Hair & Makeup in 2018
Situated on the glorious shores of the South of France, the Cannes Film festival never fails to disappoint when it comes to hair and makeup. This year was nothing short of what was expected; dazzling divas in gorgeous gowns, ready to send us gasping in awe.
While the MET gala is known to be notorious for it’s unpredictable, risk-taking looks, the starlight’s of Cannes Film Festival often reveal to us an heir of traditionalism. As usual, our gazes sharpened and fingers diligently remained on the pulse, as we thoroughly sought out inspiring looks that our favourite celebrities revealed. In our opinion, the most notable red carpet event to grace the floors of Cannes Film Festival was at the premiere of American director Terry Gilliam’s ‘The Man Who Killed Don Quixote’. The comedy, adapted from Miguel de Cervantes’ classic novel, “Don Quixote” attracted some of Hollywood’s most prized figures – some inspiring and others leaving us deflated.
Allow us to reveal which 3 celebrities ‘Cannes’ sit with us and who ‘Cannes-not!’.
Ava DuVernay
To one of our favourite directors in the industry, of whom we have witnessed rising to success and stardom! Looking radiant as always, Ava glided onto the red carpet with the vibrant presence she always brings with her along with a modest magenta dress, and a purple lipstick to match it. Her twisted braids were a crowd favourite for the DuVernator we know and love, although we believe that with the sharpness of the purple tones, a loose updo or a look with her hair completely let down. Furthermore, Ava DuVernay to braids is like bacon to a BLT – so predictable! Give us something new, you’re a force, so flaunt it! 7/10.
Kristen Stewart
We call this look – harsh haute couture.
The overload of harshness is almost deafening to our sense! Kristen Stewart is a beautiful woman, blessed with a definitive jaw that any girl would die for. But with great gifts must come great responsibilities – and good fashion sense. Her updo may as well have been constructed by her 13-year-old niece. It looked as though the side-bangs were flattened with a $2 dollar hair-gel found in a 99 cent store. To top it off, we’re almost sure this outfit was pulled out of a high school costume storage room. What were you thinking Kristen? 1/10! You Can’t sit with us!!!
Léa Seydoux
Actress Léa Seydoux always serves us with French fierceness, and the ‘Quixote’ red carpet event definitely was not an exception. Our word for Léa this time around is ‘Striking’. A striking red lip compliments an eye-catching silver sequined dress and a soft bob to compliment. Need we say more? 10/10 Léa!
